Ileana Clarke and Naomi Gow

Painted Pages
G1

Text comes in many forms of information but I have used text on two levels, first, as an aesthetic in painting and secondly, as a contemplative thought. The text comes from one definition of existentialism, and I have selected certain words and images that evoke some ideas of just ‘being’.
Ileana Clarke

I like to draw what is around me, giving significance to the little moments. These moments do not necessarily warrant telling some one else, but tickles my fancy enough to observe and create works from. Being small and paperly works, my paintings resemble pages in a book that are exposed to the public.

Damian Castaldi
Coal Country
G2

A mixed media installation with accompanying soundtrack

Damian says, “It’s a very personal work looking at and recording the effects of climate change on the landscape and from an aerial perspective the atmosphere above each landscape. Visually I am flying over and listening to six locations from the peninsula of Newcastle East, the vineyards at Wollombi, the river at the Hawkesbury River, the bay at Pretty Beach, my birth place at Avalon and finally my last inner city residence in Newtown. Mounted below each photomedia panel is a clear Perspex housing. Each of these contains a substance CONSUMED by and of the location and includes; Coal, Wine, Fish, Salt, Water & Smoke.
