SHELLEY CORNISH
Through My Eyes
After devoting her earlier years to nurturing the artistic and cultural growth of her 5 children Shelley Cornish, mother of critically acclaimed actress Abbie Cornish has recently turned her full attention to her own creative pursuits as a visual artist and is proud to share her first solo exhibition of paintings and works on paper with Newcastle Audiences.
Through My Eyes, the first solo exhibition of Shelley Cornish, reveals glimpses of an exceptional talent that has the potential to grow and mature to reveal another creative branch of the Cornish Clan. This bold exhibition presents a mix of paintings and works on paper with imagery inspired from old photographs and family that chronicle various emotive moments.
Asked about the images in Through My Eyes,
Cornish recently said:
“…I am fascinated by the way in which the painted human form can capture the moment of an emotion and particularly the way in which deep pooling eyes can convey so much about human condition".
and
“I love strong colour and tone – I paint strong characters, and overall I think that my work across all mediums allows me to explore the curious mix of whimsical moments, hard reality, intimacy, and sometimes loneliness and unbelievable joy that has filled my life.”
OPENING Friday 05 February 2010 from 6.30pm
